Spencer, IA (Northwest Iowa Now) – Hinton should run the show in the War Eagle Conference in the 2024-2025 Girls Basketball season with last year’s champion St. Mary’s of Remsen graduating a host of production from a State semifinal run last season.

South O’Brien was 4-18 overall and 2-8 in the War Eagle which was good for a tie at 9th in the 11-team league with MMCRU. Marissa Ebel is the only athlete to graduate from last year’s Wolverine squad. Reese Farquhar and Addison Hedberg each averaged almost 7 points per game while Lindsey Einck is back after averaging over 6 rebounds per contest. South O’Brien Coach DJ Hansen talked about the improvement from a deep sophomore class.

Coach Hansen hopes the team can focus on their own improvement above what is upcoming on their schedule.

MMCRU also brings back a host of underclassmen from last season. The Royals do lose a key player in Jadyn Young to graduation, who led the team in points, rebounds, and assists. Tia Tentinger will be trying to fill that void in her sophomore season after averaging 8.6 points and 2.3 steals in her freshman year for MMCRU.

Another very young team in the 2023-2024 season was Harris-Lake Park. The Wolves went 6-15 with a 4-6 conference mark, and hope to make a big jump with everyone back from last season’s group. Jared Rahe says Harris-Lake Park put in some good offseason work despite some busy schedules.

Harris-Lake Park averaged 30.8 rebounds per game, mainly spread out amongst Lili Gunderson, Peyton Reverts, Cora Niemier, Gracie Gunderson, and Kendal Niemeier who all averaged around 5 boards per contest.

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn may have the highest expectations in the War Eagle Conference of KICD 9-County Area schools. All of the Hawks minutes getters are back for the 2024-2025 campaign after going 13-9 last season with a 6-4 conference record.

That is head coach of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Ashley Tessum. The Senior Class which consists of Kylee Schiphoff, Abby Douma, Frankie Mohnie, Gracie Knobloch, Eliza Tewes, Addison Sheeler, and Kamryn Ebel have had the leadership role for a couple seasons now and are hoping to lead this team to some new heights in 2024-2025.
