Storm Lake, IA (northwestiowanow.com) — The President of Buena Vista University made the announcement no administrator wants to make Monday night. Brian Lenzmeier sent an email to staff and students that a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon claimed the life of one of their students.

Lezmeier identified the student as Kaylee Nachitigal – a 2024 graduate from Spencer High School. He said two other students involved in the crash sustained injuries requiring medical attention. Two medical helicopters were dispatched yesterday – one to the hospital in Storm Lake and the other to the scene.

The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol incident and Storm Lake Fire Department.

Buena Vista University is offering support and counseling to its students.
