Full-time News Reporter and Sports Play-by-Play Announcer Job Description:
We value creativity and the desire to win. We’re looking for someone who has the skills and ability to gather and write local news stories, conduct interviews for audio actualities, anchor local newscasts and post stories on website and social media, etc.

This person will also be responsible for doing play-by-play of regional High School football and basketball games during the season.  Some evenings and weekends will be required.

Previous on-air experience is preferred but not required.  The right person for this position will need to live in Spencer, Iowa (or surrounding area). We need someone who understands small-market, local radio and is willing to be involved in the community.

SMG’s group of 4 stations covers over 9 counties in northwest Iowa, including the Iowa Great Lakes.  Northwest Iowa is a beautiful place to live, work and raise a family.

Other Duties for this position include (but not limited to):
– Gather and write local news stories
– Conduct interviews in person and via phone for audio actualities
– Cover local meetings & events for news coverage
– Edit audio for air
– Anchor newscasts
– Post stories on website and social media platforms
– Voice/Produce commercials as assigned
– Fill in voicetracking/Board op as needed

– Have excellent communication skills and works well with people

– Have an understanding and familiarity with websites / social media / digital marketing
