Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Spencer fire department was also dispatched to a grass fire at 711 4th Avenue Southeast Sunday afternoon around 1:30. Assistant Chief Mark Stover says it was out when the fire crew arrived, and they doused a smoldering fire pit where the fire had started.

It appears paper was being burned in the pit and some blew out.

The fire department reminds Spencer residents that code prohibits the burning of refuse – including paper and cardboard; and that recreational fires must be monitored by a competent adult.
