Clay County, IA (northwestiowanow) — The proposed Red Rock Wind Energy Center is moving closer to construction.

Analyst Manashree Padiyath with Invenergy provided an update to the Clay County Board of Supervisors Tuesday.

The Red Rock Wind Project involves a wind farm expected to include 51 turbines located in Dickinson County and Emmet County. Clay County will host the project’s point of interconnection and portions of its underground collection system.

Invenergy is seeking county approval of an agreement involving Joint Drainage District 61, where underground collection lines will cross drainage infrastructure.

Although the county will play a role in the project’s electrical infrastructure, Padiyath assured the board that no turbines are planned in Clay County.

The Board of Supervisors indicated the agreement will be reviewed by the county engineer and legal counsel before any action is taken.

A joint meeting of Drainage District 61 with officials from Clay, Dickinson, and Emmet counties is scheduled for November 10 to review the proposed agreement.

The Red Rock Wind Project is targeting completion by late 2028 or 2029.
