Omaha, NE (KICD)– One of the companies with a proposal to build a carbon dioxide pipeline in part of the local area has pulled the plug on the project.
Omaha-based Navigator CO2 announced Friday that after some challenging development and given the unpredictable nature of the regulatory and governmental processes involved, especially in South Dakota and Iowa, the company has decided to cancel the project.
CEO Matt Vining says “As good stewards of capital and responsible managers of people, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Heartland Greenway project. We are disappointed that we will not be able to provide services to our customers and thank them for their continued support.”
The project was proposed to go through portions of Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, O’Brien, Osceola and Pocahontas Counties in the local area.
A company spokesperson for Summit Carbon Solutions, an Ames based company with a similar proposal, put out a statement on Friday noting that it remains fully committed to its project and has reached voluntary agreements along nearly 75 percent of proposed route.
