Sioux Falls, SD (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spirit Lake Cross Country teams traveled to Sioux Falls for the Hyper Competitive Nike Heartland Preview Saturday.

Harrisburg, South Dakota’s Brianna Reilly won the Girls race with a time of 17:26.6.  The highest placing Spirit Lake runner was Ella Beck with a time of 20:33 flat in 57th.  Bethany Frostestad took 122nd for Spirit Lake at 21:54.8 and Elanor Sinz would be 169th at 22:54.9.  Spirit Lake’s Ainsley Thompson took 178th at 23:02.2 and Marie Mueting was 179th at 23:03.5.  There was a total of 223 runners in the Varsity Girls race.

Winning the Girls team score was Harrisburg of South Dakota with a dominant 44 points, undercutting the tie between Sioux Falls Christian and Marian of Omaha, Nebraska for 2nd by 64 points.  Out of the 24 teams, Spirit Lake was 17th at 523 points.

Washington of Sioux Falls, South Dakota’s Cole Reilly threw down an incredible time of 15:18 flat to win the Boys Varsity race.  Jace Hungerford of Spirit Lake took 4th with a time of 15:50.3.  Chidi Nwala was 53rd for Spirit Lake at 17:14 and not too far behind was teammate Titus Coates with a time of 17:17.3 in 56th.  Wylee Conway was 80th for Spirit Lake at 17:46.1 and Carson Profit took 99th with a time of 18:02.4.  There were 273 total runners in the boy’s varsity race.

Washington of Sioux Falls, South Dakota dominated with 36 team points, 89 points in front of 2nd place Sioux Falls Christian of South Dakota.  North Star of Lincoln, Nebraska was 3rd with 144 points.  Spirit Lake would take 8th out of the 26 competing teams.
