LAURENS, IA (Northwestiowanow) — Residents living between South Sadie and Lawman Lane in Laurens are being urged to evacuate immediately due to a ruptured natural gas main.

Officials say city crews accidentally struck an unmarked gas main in the area. While proper safety procedures were followed, Alliant Energy has advised residents within the affected neighborhood to leave the area until further notice because of current wind conditions.

Emergency personnel are going door-to-door to notify residents. Authorities are also asking the public to avoid the area until the situation is resolved.Residents outside the evacuation zone are encouraged to stay clear and help share the alert with others in the affected neighborhood.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
